Plastering & skimming services
Domestic plastering for homeowners in Rushden and the surrounding area — walls, ceilings, and everything in between.
Wall skimming
A thin, final coat of finishing plaster applied over plasterboard or existing plaster to leave a smooth, flat surface ready for paint or paper. Ideal after a stud wall goes up, a room is replastered, or old textured walls need modernising.
- New plasterboard skim coats
- Full re-skims over old, cracked or uneven plaster
- Skimming after rewiring or plumbing work
- Multi-finish and bonding coats where needed
Ceiling skimming
Ceilings take a beating — old Artex, water stains, sagging plasterboard. I skim over sound Artex, overboard where needed, and finish new plasterboard to a smooth, paint-ready surface.
- Skimming over existing textured (Artex) ceilings
- New plasterboard ceilings, fully skimmed
- Ceiling repairs following leaks or removed fittings
- Coving and edge finishing on request
Patch & repair plastering
Not every job needs a full room. Cracks, holes from shelving or old sockets, and damp-damaged patches can usually be repaired and blended in so the wall looks untouched once painted.
- Crack repairs (settlement, hairline & structural aftercare)
- Patching after socket, switch or pipework alterations
- Making good after damp treatment or removed fixtures
- Small areas and single-wall touch-ups
Simple, upfront rates
Whole-room and multi-room jobs are usually quoted as a fixed price after a quick look, so you know the full cost before any work starts.

How long does plaster take to dry before I can paint?
New skim plaster typically needs around 3–5 days to dry (longer in cold or damp weather) before it's ready for a mist coat of diluted emulsion. I'll give you a realistic timeframe for your room when I quote the job.
Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?
Where possible, please clear the room or move furniture to the centre — I bring dust sheets to protect what's left and to keep the work area clean throughout.
Can you skim over Artex ceilings?
In most cases, yes — sound Artex can be skimmed directly over. If it's loose, damaged, or the ceiling needs boarding first, I'll flag that during the quote so there are no surprises.
Do you provide materials?
Yes, plaster and standard materials are included and agreed as part of your quote before work begins.
What areas do you cover?
I'm based in Rushden and take on domestic plastering work across the surrounding area. Get in touch with your postcode and I'll confirm I can cover it.
Not sure which service you need?
Describe the room and I'll tell you straight what's involved and what it'll cost.
